Automated Key Machine Utilized in AA Step Driver
A major lock manufacturer asked a machine builder to create an automated master key processing machine. This machine was needed for producing certain quantities of keys required for locks that would ultimately be purchased by large institutions such as hotels, schools and universities, hospitals and medical centers, office buildings and government facilities. This machinery builder had been a customer of Anaheim Automation for many other projects in the past, and decided to take personal interest in meeting this new challenge. The endeavor proved to be more of a challenge than originally though, especially in the software area. The customer specified that the programming be basic, but still demanded mechanical ingenuity. Our customer, the machinery builder, constructed a system that used a personal computer (PC), and an Allen Bradley programmable controller to operate a newly designed high-speed, automated key machine. Under program control, the machine selected the appropriate banks from six tracks, loaded the blanks (uncut keys stock) into clamps located on a precision turntable. The blanks were then stamped with alpha-numeric identification numbers as they are rotated through a series of stations. At the end of the cycle, the finished keys were cut and offloaded onto selected stacks, waiting to be packaged with the locks. The average time required to process the key cuts was 4.2 seconds, which was a dramatic difference in time and human handling. The program made it easy for the operator to enter information such as stock numbers, quantity required, instructions for cutting bits, identification numbers to be stamped on keys, and stack information for loading blanks and offloading keys. Additionally, the PC maintained a key data base, holding information about the standards on the keys that were produced. Two Anaheim Automation dual Step Driver Packs that contain controllers for interfacing and control, high-performance bilevel bipolar step motor driver(s), and the appropriate power supplies were chosen for the task. The Step Driver Packs provided the capability to translate the required system instructions into step motor commands. This ability, along with the fact that they were compact and easy to install, made the Step Driver Pack ideal for applications in systems of this type. After a year of development, the refined and cost-effective two-axis bipolar step motor driver system precisely met the customers requirements, far exceeding their expectations for the project.
Driver Packs Used for Research in Radiatio
Anaheim Automation Step Driver Packs are used in several radiation laboratories throughout the Unites States. These Step Driver Packs are packaged step driver(s) containing matched power supplies that are used in radiation laboratories to operate stepper motors. These centers, run by the US Department of Energy, conduct major experiments; one of which is in a two mile long linear electron accelerator. The major use of this accelerator involves moving high energy electrons from the accelerator to a positron electron asymmetric ring. This ring is approximately 230 feet in diameter and contains magnets that keep the electrons traveling at a high speed, close to the speed of light. As a result, radiation is produced. This radiation has broad spectral range, high intensity, small source size, high stability, high polarization, pulsed time structure, and a high vacuum environment. The type of radiation produced by the accelerator makes the ring an incredibly efficient way to conduct experiments. This particular facility is well-known and has attracted a myriad of people from all over the world to use the synchrotron radiation instrument for different fields of biology, chemistry, and physics. This facility has conducted experiments with more than 1,000 researchers who have traveled from hundreds of different locations in the USA, and many foreign countries. Nearby companies also use Anaheim Automations motion control products in the radiation lab for research. As detectors gather data, the storage ring emits X-ray beams toward samples of experimental semiconductor materials. This procedure provides detailed information about materials, including its atomic structure. During one experiment, seven two-axis Step Driver Packs were also used in conjunction with detectors; because dual-axis, they operate stepper motors on 14 axes. These motors turn mirrors to position both the X-ray beam, as well as the sample. Typically, computers operate the stepper motor drivers and respond to the data from the detectors as the work progresses, and specify different movements that specialized programs run. The two-axis Step Driver Pack saved the laboratory time and money, using matched step driver products, power supplies and fans, in a compact package. Hook-ups were a snap and error-free!
Driver Packs Save Time and Money
Over the years, Anaheim Automation, Inc. has taken into consideration the utilization of space in the constant redesigning of its Step Driver Pack product lines. In some cases, we have ultimately doubled the capabilities of the original designs, but maintaining the same size and footprints. The original Step Driver Packs conveniently packaged together either one or two drivers and one controller, and a matched power supply. Aesthetically, the new components are less than an inch wider than their originals; yet contain not only one or two drivers, but, three or four drivers and the appropriate power supply. In some cases, Step Driver Packs are equipped with pulse generators, indexers and/or programmable controllers (model dependent). Incidentally, the cost of this product line has also been substantially reduced, being cut in half in some cases! Anaheim Automation, Inc. manufactures a large variety of Step Driver Packs for customers requiring a 110VAC or 220VAC input. These units contain drivers with a matched power supply, and are typically packaged in an enclosure with a cooling fan (model dependent). Standard models are available in one, two, three or four-axis configurations, with bi-level or microstep drivers in current ranges of 0.5 to 10.0 Amps, with a power supply capacity of up to 800 watts. Specials are also available, where the configurations and options are endless! The Step Driver Pack product line is often preferable to OEM and end-user customers because by design they take the guesswork out of the selection of drivers, controllers and power supplies. Anaheim Automation matched these components and provides them in a neat package with the appropriate cooling fan. Hook-up is simplified and errors are reduced, all at a savings for the customer.
